The Argentine government has announced plans to privatize more than a dozen state-owned companies next year. The aim is to inject new vitality into the private sector and raise funds to strengthen the country’s reserves. Companies slated for sale include the Railway Infrastructure Administration, the General Port Administration, Public Content, Edu.Ar, the Argentine Air Navigation Company, Military Fabrications, Railway Operator, Radio and Television Argentina, the Mint and Telam, as well as Transener, hydroelectric dams and AYSA, the major provider of potable water and sewerage in the metropolitan area.
President Javier Milei, under Article 48 of Decree of Necessity and Urgency No 70/2023, ordered that all companies with state participation be transformed into Anonymous Companies, ensuring equal conditions with private firms and the application of Law 19.550.
The transformation program concluded with the registration of Ferrocarriles Argentinos Sociedad del Estado in the public registry, turning it into Ferrocarriles Argentinos Sociedad Anónima Unipersonal. The focus is on energy and transport, with companies such as Corredores Viales, Enarsa, Intercargo and the Vía Navegable Troncal.
